If you're a gamer, chances are you've played or at least heard about the games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. To put together this list, we will use public reception, gameplay, and the opinions of industry experts to create the most accurate ranking possible. Are you excited to find out if your favorite title came in first? Let's get to the list!

Assassin’s Creed Rogue

For us, the worst Assassin’s Creed could not be any other. Rogue is last on our list for a simple reason: the game brings few or even no innovations compared to previous games. Its mechanics, for the most part, are the same as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, which had been released a few years earlier.

Despite this, if you have the opportunity, it's worth checking out the game. Its small changes in relation to Black Flag make the gameplay fun and you can easily spend a few hours playing it.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity

If you've played all the games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, you were probably expecting this title to be near the bottom of our list. The negative reputation of this title was mainly due to its troubled launch combined with the high expectations that the public had for the first Assassin’s Creed for PS4 and XBOX One.

This title became known in the gaming world for having a launch full of glitches and bugs and a story that many considered to be below average for Assassin’s Creed. However, over time, Ubisoft released updates to fix the game's problems and today it is considered by many to be the Assassin’s Creed with the best parkour system in the franchise.

Assassin’s Creed

If this were a list following the release order of Assassin’s Creed, this one would be first on the list because it was the first game in the franchise. Don't get me wrong, Assassin’s Creed was an incredible game for its time and laid the foundation for the rest of the franchise to emerge, however, compared to the other games, it feels more like a demo.

Because it has extremely limited missions (Find and eliminate a target) Assassin’s Creed ends up becoming a repetitive game. However, despite being repetitive, the game's missions are quite innovative for the time and were fun to complete.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Following our list of the best games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, we have Syndicate, loved by many and not so much by others. In this title, we follow the siblings Evie and Jacob Frye during the Victorian period in London. The game's story, full of twists and turns, captivated a large part of the gamers of the time.

However, not everything is rosy, at the time of Syndicate's release the franchise was going through a crisis and needed to reinvent itself, this led Syndicate's developers to turn the game into a kind of experimentation with new mechanics, which only partially pleased the public.

Assassin’s Creed 2

Returning to the classics, the next one on our list of the best games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is the beloved second title in the series. The greatest achievement of this game, considered the most popular in the series, is having taken the mechanics that worked in the first one and combined them with a captivating story and one of the most memorable protagonists in the history of gaming.

The story follows Ezio Auditore, a young man who is taking his first steps into the Assassin Brotherhood, a brotherhood of assassins that has existed throughout history with the aim of fighting injustice.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Basim, protagonist of Assassin's Creed Mirage, with his hidden blade on the game's cover.

Mirage stands out among the games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise for simultaneously bringing innovative elements and rescuing features from the first games in the franchise, which pleased many fans. The stealth aspect is once again a central part of the gameplay and many of the characteristics of RPG games have been left aside.

Set in Baghdad, Assassin’s Creed Mirage follows Basim, a character introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as he rises from a street thief to the pinnacle of his career as an assassin. The focus on stealth and parkour revived a passion for the series within many players.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations

The game responsible for concluding the story of Ezio Auditore is part of the group of games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise that gained popularity over time. During its release, for trying to answer too many questions in a single game, the story was labeled as confusing, however, today many fans have fond memories of their adventures in the game.

Set in Constantinople, Ezio will need to stop the Templars from taking advantage of the civil war within the Ottoman Empire to achieve their goals. The strength of this game, however, were the new mechanics it introduced, such as the eagle beak blade and new levels of customization.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Valhalla is definitely the longest game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, with a campaign lasting over 40 hours. This increase in campaign length in current Assassin’s Creed games is largely due to the fact that current games have become RPGs, Role Playing Games, which, in practice, increases the customization of the game.

The story takes place during the 9th century, during the Viking invasions. Your character, Eivor, who can be male or female depending on your choice, plans to establish a Viking clan in England, but ends up finding herself in the middle of the conflict between the Templars and the Order of Assassins.

Assassin’s Creed 3

This is another one that also joins the list of games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise that divided players. Unlike the games in the series up until then, this one is set in America, more precisely in the United States during the American Revolution. You play as the assassin Connor Kenway who is battling against the Templars of the time.

This game is remembered for its fantastic combat and above-average animations compared to previous games. Despite having a mixed reception among fans at the time of its release, it is now remembered as one of the best games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

We've reached a point in our list where, from now on, all games are considered great by the vast majority of the public. Assassin's Creed Odyssey It definitely deserves a place among these titles, being considered by many to be the best Assassin’s Creed ever released.

The game is set in ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War, when Athens and Sparta faced off. You must choose between one of the siblings Alexios and Kassandra who seek to unravel the hidden secret of their lineage. The game is remembered by fans for having unique combat mechanics and for having remarkable side missions.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is one of the games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise most loved by fans of the series, not only for being one of the first to be released, but also for bringing together a captivating story, incredible combat and a memorable protagonist all in one place.

This is the second game in which we follow Ezio Auditore in his battle against the Knights Templar. In this game, our protagonist goes to Rome to attack the Order where it is strongest and most vulnerable. It maintains many features of Assassin’s Creed 2, however, for many players it presents a more interesting story and the few mechanics added were well received.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

We couldn't talk about the best games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise without mentioning the public's favorite: Origins. Set in ancient Egypt, the game tells the story of the beginning of the Assassin Brotherhood, the brotherhood that the protagonists of almost all games in the series are part of.

This game is known for being the first in the series to fully embrace the RPG style, introducing a Skill Tree, more character customization options, and plenty of exploration and side quests. The game was so successful that Odyssey, released a few years later, is basically Origins with a different theme.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag

First on our list of the best games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise we have one of the most remarkable games of the PS3/Xbox 360 generation and also of the PS4/Xbox One generation. Black Flag transports you to the Caribbean, where you play as a pirate who is part of the Brotherhood of Assassins and finds yourself in the middle of the war between the Templars and the Brotherhood.

One of the biggest differences in this game, and one that left its mark on everyone who played it, is the boats that you can not only drive, but also serve as the stage for incredible battles. In addition, the game is also remembered for its unique soundtrack that marked an entire generation of gamers around the world.
