How to Defeat Homo Avades in Metaphor ReFantazio

Find out how to defeat this boss!

If you're playing the first act of Metaphor ReFantazio you're probably having trouble defeating Homo Avades, a human resurrected by one of the game's main antagonists,

A boss like this needs to be approached with a strategy in mind that takes into account its weaknesses, resistances, and phases. With that in mind, today we're going to help you beat Homo Avades through tips and a practically foolproof strategy.

How to Defeat Homo Avades: What You Need to Know

As the last enemy in Act 1 of the game, we can say that Homo Avades is an expected challenge, since the first act of most games aims to test the player. If you find the boss too difficult or even unfair, don't worry, after learning his weaknesses and resistances, defeating Homo Avades won't be a big problem.

We can even say that defeating Homo Avades is proof that the player has mastered much of the game's mechanics introduced up until that point, since it's not just about "fighting" him, defeating Homo Avades involves much more than that.

First phase of the battle

As soon as you start fighting the boss you will notice that you can attack two different parts of his bizarre body: The shell of his torso (which looks like an egg) and his heart which is above his head and is surrounded by monsters.

What we can say is that defeating Homo Avades involves attacking his weak point: his heart. However, in this first phase, only a few specific attacks will hit the heart, and while you try to attack, he can use his own attacks, causing a lot of damage to your team.

The quickest way to defeat him is to destroy his shell first, which can be done through synthesis attacks. Once his shell is destroyed, he will lose his balance and his heart will fall in front of the characters, thus beginning the second phase of the fight.

Second phase of the battle

Now that the monster's shell has been destroyed and the boss has lost his balance, you'll have two turns to attack him in the heart before he gets back up. The trick here is to use your most powerful synthesis attacks to deal the most damage possible.

This won't defeat him, however, but you will have managed to deal a lot of damage to his weak point. Now that Homo Avades has regained his balance, several frog soldiers will appear inside his shell. To defeat Homo Avades you need to deal with these soldiers first, as if they attack you, they will deal a lot of damage.

Now that the soldiers have been defeated, he will regenerate his shell using his hands. Use a strong attack on his right hand, this will probably destroy it and you will still have one more move to make. From now on, just repeat the steps from the first phase: hit his shell until he loses his balance and his heart falls out.

End of the fight

If you followed the walkthrough, your heart should be low on health and you should be able to defeat Homo Avades with just a few attacks. After defeating him, the boss will drop “Avades’s Eggshell”, an item that can be sold for money. If you’re disappointed with the rewards of the battle, don’t worry, your team will earn plenty of XP to reward you.
