Physical and magical damage are different

Something that can confuse many players is the difference between physical damage and magical damage. Unlike some other games, in Metaphor some attacks that would normally only deal physical damage can also deal magical damage. This can also be applied to magical weapons, which occasionally deal physical damage. To avoid getting confused again, remember to always read the description of your skills, so you will know what type of damage they deal.

Accept contracts whenever possible

Alongside the primary narrative, side quests are available through contracts purchased from recruitment centers located in the towns you explore in-game. For players who prefer a more direct approach, these may seem like an inefficient use of time; however, we can assure you that this is not the case! Engaging in these quests increases your virtue of courage, which in turn increases your popularity in the game.

Remember to use synthesis skills

Of the tips for beginners in Metaphor Refantazio, this is one of the most central when we talk about combat. Synthesis abilities are attacks involving two or more archetypes simultaneously. Not only are they extremely powerful, being able to annihilate all enemies on the screen at once, but their efficiency with mana is very high; in fact, there are even syntheses that do not use mana.

Visit Coronation Rock whenever you can

We couldn't write an article about tips for beginners in Metaphor Refantazio without talking about one of the best ways to get Mag. Scattered around the game's map are the Coronation Rocks, stones with the busts of the most popular candidates to become the next King.

What you may not know, however, is that by interacting with these rocks you can not only check your ranking but also acquire MAG generated from your position in the competition. If you can maintain a high ranking and remember to visit Coronation Rock regularly, you will earn a lot of MAG.

Always buy information

Just like in movies and books about the Middle Ages, in Metaphor: Refantazio there are informants who charge for information in taverns throughout the kingdom. At first glance, paying for information may not seem like a good idea, but it is a very important mechanic that can help you a lot during your adventure. Therefore, whenever you find an informant in a tavern, pay for the information they have.

Increase the experience gain of your archetypes

If none of the Metaphor Refantazio beginner tips above were new to you, I guarantee this one will be. After completing a few quests in Brilehaven Harbor, you’ll unlock the Colosseum, a battle arena where you and your team can compete to climb the rankings.

The most important thing about this arena, however, is the item you earn after your first battle, the Lucky Gauntlets. When equipped on your character, they increase the archetype XP they gain by 50%, a tremendous increase! If you're having trouble leveling up your archetypes, do so as soon as possible.

Invest in blocking and evasion during battles

Unlike other turn-based RPGs like Persona, in Metaphor: Refantazio your team has a specific number of actions per turn that can be used as you see fit. During some actions, however, this number can increase (criticals) or decrease (evasions and blocks). However, this applies to enemies as well; if you block or dodge their attack, they will lose two turn icons, not just one.

Evolve your archetypes without having to use them

Of all the tips for beginners in Metaphor Refantazio, this is perhaps the most valuable. Always evolve your archetypes that are not being used in your main team, even though it may seem counterintuitive. This is recommended because there is a mechanic where you can inherit skills from one archetype into another archetype. For example: a knight archetype can inherit the skill of a mage, which can be very useful in certain situations.

Keep an eye on the time

During your game, you will notice that there are basically “two schedules”: night and day. Some activities in the game only happen at night while others only happen during the day. Therefore, when you are exploring the map, especially a city, keep an eye on what is available at that time. One thing we can already tell you is that magic shops only open at night.

Focus on missions with an expiration date

We couldn't make a list of tips for beginners in Metaphor Refantazio without talking about how to prioritize the various missions present in the game. As you may already know, your adventure is guided by a calendar in the same way as other turn-based RPGs.

However, what you may not know is that some missions have an expiration date, which means that if you don't complete them by the deadline, you won't be able to do them anymore. Focus on these missions so you don't miss out on the opportunity to get your rewards.

Play your way!

Don’t try to follow exactly what a friend or someone you saw on the internet did during their adventure, be unique! Make the decisions you want and play the game your way! If you like a specific group of archetypes, don’t change them because they might not be “the best group possible”, play with them and have fun.
